Develop series of sketches using volunteer model to run by collector and determine final pose. The above sketch was chosen as the final pose. |
First session with hired model. Two hours of drawing to nail down pose, get feel for pose and figure. Produce 8" x 12" color sketch for purposes of color balance, composition. Size is proportional to final 24" x 36" canvas. |
Second session with model. Tone canvas. Draw figure on canvas 4 times before getting it right. Paint figure. Decide to take fabric off of stool, exposing right ankle and foot. |
First session without model. Add background. Punch up arms |
Second session without model. Working from drawings and photos, make various adjustments to figure. Second coat on background. |
Final session with model. Repaint entire body. Repaint floor.

It's been about two months since those first charcoal sketches. I add some final touches. Fix stool legs and shadows of bottom right corner. |
